Hi, guys. This is Wendy again. I’m honored to participate in Jennifer’s program – Making Dreams Come True. We went skiing with Wasatch Adaptative Sports at Snowbird, near Salt Lake City, Utah. We had so much fun.
1. What was your favorite highlight experience of skiing with Wasatch Adaptive Sports?
My favorite highlight experience of skiing with Wasatch Adaptative Sports was the standup skiing on the second day of the lessons. I was originally scheduled for a bucket skiing and I was riding downhill sitting in a bi-ski on the first day.
When I saw another student sliding downhill in a standup position, I thought I might be able to do that as well. I saw that an instructor was helping the student to control the speed by holding the ropes tied to the student’s skis.
Wasatch instructors let me try out the ski boots and they set up the perfect ski boots and skis for me.
2. What did you feel while you were skiing?
While I was skiing on the first day, I felt very excited, because I had never skied before, and it was a brand new experience for me. I was able to turn left or right by leaning a little bit to the left or right. The bi-ski equipment is very sensitive, so it did not take much effort to make a turn.
On the second day, I tried out standup skiing. I felt super excited because I had never imagined I could stand up ski like anyone else. Instructors are very thoughtful to let me rest for a while after every round of skiing because I could not stand for too long. Though standup skiing speed was a lot slower than sitting in the bi-ski on the first day, I felt I had accomplished more, since I could ski on my own.
3. How did you feel after skiing?
After the skiing adventure, I still felt that this adventure had not ended and was still going on. I felt every muscle of my body was calling for more practice of skiing to reinforce the muscle memory.
4. How did this experience change your life?
This experience definitely led me to a new sport that I can fully participate in. It totally changed my old beliefs that there are just limited kinds of sports that I could get involved in. Now adding another sport to my list, I think my choice would be unlimited.
5. What ideas did this experience give you for your future?
This experience challenged me to try new things and enabled me to do things I never thought possible. Most of the time, what you can or cannot do is just out of your own perception. Never underestimate your true potential and confine yourself within the box. Get out of the box and go forward to explore new things and they might bring pleasant surprises.
